2025 Miss SAKE 秋田 嶋宮里紗です。
この度は、12月10日（水）、秋田酒造株式会社 取締役社長 野本翔様、弊社団代表理事の大西美香の同行のもと、母校である国際教養大学（以下、AIU）に表敬訪問させていただきましたのでご報告いたします。

秋田県の公立大学である「国際教養大学」は、全授業が英語で行われているほか、入学後1年の寮生活や1年間の海外留学が必須であることが特徴です。
「秋田」という地方に居ながら、多様なバックグラウンドを持つ学生たちと関わり、国際的な視野を育むことができる大学です。
今回の訪問では、2025 Miss SAKE 秋田に就任いたしましたこと、そしてタイ・香港・マカオにて秋田の日本酒や食文化をプロモーションする活動を行ってきたことをご報告いたしました。異なる文化的背景を持つ人々に秋田の魅力を伝えることができたのは、AIUで培った「地域に根ざしながらも国際社会と繋がる視点」が大きく活きていると改めて実感し、その感謝を学長にお伝えいたしました。
モンテ・カセム学長からは、企業勤務を経てMiss SAKEという新たなキャリア形成に挑戦していることに関心を寄せていただきました。お話の中では、学長のご出身国スリランカについても教えていただきました。材料や料理方法は日本と異なるものの、同国にも「発酵文化」が根づいているというお話は非常に興味深く、発酵を軸とした国際的な文化交流の可能性を強く感じるひとときとなりました。
さらに、AIUにはオリジナルデザインのミネラルウォーターはあるものの、まだ「日本酒」は存在しないという話題から、代表理事とともに、「いつかMiss SAKEとしても関わりながら、秋田の酒蔵とAIUが協働し、オリジナルの日本酒をつくる取り組みができないだろうか」という未来の展望についても語り合いました。母校と秋田の酒文化が新たな形でつながる可能性に胸が高鳴り、実現に向けて今後も尽力したいと心新たにいたしました。
また、在学中に英語集中プログラム（EAP)でお世話になった長沼奈絵子准教授とも再会し、Miss SAKE 秋田として活動していることをご報告することができました。
長沼准教授のご案内で、キャンパス内のテーマ別ハウス・ウェルビーイングハウスのポスタープレゼンテーションも見学させていただきました。アニメ、ジェンダー、日本文化など多様なテーマで構成されたテーマ別ハウスでは、同じ関心をもつ学生が寮で共に暮らしながら活動を行っており、授業外でも主体的な学びが生まれるAIUならではの魅力を再認識する機会となりました。
今回の訪問を通じて、AIUで得た学びや経験が現在のMiss SAKEとしての活動に確かに結びついていることを改めて感じ、卒業生として母校AIUはもちろん、秋田のためにも恩返しができるよう、いただいた激励を胸にさらに精進してまいりたいと思います。

I am pleased to report that on Wednesday, December 10, I had the honor of paying a courtesy visit to my alma mater, Akita International University (AIU), accompanied by Mr. Sho Nomoto, President and Director of Akita Shuzo Co., Ltd., and Ms. Mika Onishi, Representative Director of our organization.

Akita International University, a public institution in Akita Prefecture, is distinguished by its fully English-taught curriculum, its mandatory first-year dormitory residence, and the requirement of a full-year study abroad. While located in the rural region of Akita, the university offers a truly global environment where students from diverse backgrounds learn and live together, cultivating broad international perspectives.
During this visit, I reported my appointment as 2025 Miss SAKE Akita and shared my recent activities promoting Akita’s sake and food culture in Thailand, Hong Kong and Macau. I expressed my sincere gratitude to President Monte Cassim, as it was through the perspective I gained at AIU—“being rooted in the local community while engaging with the world”—that I have been able to convey the charm of Akita to audiences of different cultural backgrounds.

In our conversation, President Cassim also shared insights about his home country, Sri Lanka. Although the ingredients and culinary techniques differ from those of Japan, Sri Lanka too has a rich “culture of fermentation.” This was profoundly fascinating and made me feel the potential for cross-cultural exchange grounded in fermentation traditions around the world.
Furthermore, when discussing the fact that AIU has its own original bottled water but not yet its own sake, we began envisioning the possibility of creating an “AIU Original Sake” through collaboration between AIU, Akita breweries, and Miss SAKE. The idea of connecting my alma mater with Akita’s sake culture in a new and meaningful way filled me with excitement, and I am determined to work toward making this vision a reality.
I also had the pleasure of reconnecting with Associate Professor Naeko Naganuma, who taught me during the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Under her guidance, I visited the campus “Theme Houses,” including the Well-being House, where students were presenting their poster projects. These Theme Houses—dedicated to areas such as anime, gender, and Japanese culture—allow students with shared interests to live and learn together in the dormitories, offering unique opportunities for self-directed learning beyond the classroom. It reminded me once again of the distinctive educational environment that makes AIU so special.
Through this visit, I deeply realized how the learning and experiences I gained at AIU continue to support and enrich my work as Miss SAKE today. As a proud alumna, I am more determined than ever to give back not only to AIU but also to the broader Akita community. Encouraged by the warm support I received during this visit, I will continue to devote myself wholeheartedly to these efforts.
