秋の気配が漂い始めた2024年10月上旬、オーストリア・ウィーンで開催された「Sake Japan Fair」に参加させていただきましたのでご報告いたします。

Sake Week Vienna

日本酒の日である2024年10月1日から8日までの一週間にわたり、オーストリア・ウィーンにて開催されました。

市内各地で毎日、蔵元による日本酒のセミナーやテイスティングイベントが行われ、日本や日本の食文化に興味を持つ方々がオーストリア国内外から多く集まりました。

ANAのウィーン－羽田直行便再開

ANAはコロナ禍により運休していた、ウィーン－羽田間の直行便の運航を2024年8月1日より再開しました。これにより、日本とオーストリアの往来が活発化し、観光やビジネスのさらなる活性化が期待されています。

日本へのアクセスが向上したことにより、より多くの方に日本酒や日本の食文化に触れていただく機会が増え、その魅力を知っていただけることも期待されます。

Japan Sake Fair

オーストリア最大の日本酒フェアであるJapan Sake Fairは、ドナウ川沿いの最高のロケーションBadeschiff-Wienで開催されました。天候にも恵まれ、会場は自然光に包まれ、楽しそうな会話や笑い声が溢れていました。

各ブースでは日本酒のほか、日本ウイスキーやジンなどのリキュールも提供されていました。また、さまざまな種類の醤油や味噌など日本らしい発酵食品も揃い、嗅覚と味覚を楽しませる品々が数多く並んでいました。

参加者の中には、オーストリア国内だけでなく、近隣の東欧諸国でインポーターや飲食店を営んでいる方も多くいらっしゃいました。

中欧諸国ではまだ日本酒の輸入が一般的ではないため、オーストリア経由で仕入れている方が多いと伺いました。地理的にも、東欧諸国の方々にとって気軽に訪問できる場所で、新たな日本酒と出会い、日本酒ディストリビューターと交流できる貴重なフェアであると実感しました。

イベントの後半には、日本や日本食が好きな一般の方々も多く参加され、会場はさらに盛り上がりを見せました。昨年参加されていた方々も多く、今年の開催を楽しみにしていました！、と嬉しそうに話してくださる方もいらっしゃいました。皆様待望のイベントに私も参加することができ、とても嬉しく思いました。

中には振袖に興味を持って声をかけてくださった方もいらっしゃいました。お着物を初めて見たという方もおり、私が着用している振袖やその着用シーンについて多くの質問をいただきました。

今回のイベントで着用していた振袖は、私の曽祖母が母と叔母に贈ったもので、私と従姉妹も成人式の際に着用した思い出深いものです。そのエピソードを交えながらお話しすると、皆さんは感慨深げに聞いてくださいました。

日本酒だけでなく、日本やその食文化、伝統についてもアンバサダーとして皆様にお伝えできることを大変嬉しく思います。これからも、こうした機会を通じて、日本の魅力を多くの方に伝えていきたいと思います。

 

Japan Sake Fairでは、ウエノグルメの上野ミュラー佳子様にもお会いすることができました。今秋新たに出版されたSAKEの本について、上野様から直接お話を伺うことができ、大変光栄でした。

11月6日には東京でもこちらの本の出版記念イベントが開催されます。日本酒ファンをはじめ、海外の方向けに日本や日本酒を英語で説明する機会がある日本酒関係者や蔵元の皆様にとって、必見のイベントとなっております。

Miss SAKE participated in the “Sake Japan Fair” in Vienna

Hello everyone. 

I am Hikari Saito, 2023 Miss SAKE Japan Runner-up.

I was honored to participate in Austria’s biggest sake fair, the ‘Sake Japan Fair,’ held in Vienna. This event was one of the highlight events of Sake Week Vienna.

Sake Week Vienna

Sake Week Vienna was held for one week from October 1st to 8th, 2024.

Sake seminars and tasting events by Sake experts and brewers were held every day in various parts of Vienna, and many people interested in Japan and Japanese food culture gathered from Austria and abroad.

ANA Restarted Direct Flights Between Vienna and Haneda

ANA has restarted its direct flights between Vienna and Haneda as of August 1, 2024, after being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is set to enhance travel and business exchanges between Japan and Austria.

With travel to Japan now more accessible, a greater number of people will have the chance to experience Sake and Japanese cuisine, helping them to discover the rich culture and flavors that Japan has to offer.

Japan Sake Fair

Japan Sake Fair, Austria’s largest sake fair, was held at the stunning location of Badeschiff-Wien along the Danube River. We were fortunate with the weather, and the hall was bathed in natural light, filled with a cheerful atmosphere.

In addition to Sake, there was a wide variety of other Japanese alcoholic beverages such as whiskey and gin, as well as a wide selection of Japanese fermented foods such as soy sauce and miso.

The participants were not only those from Austria but also importers and restaurant owners from neighboring Central European countries.

It seems that the import of Sake is still not common in Eastern Europe, and that many are sourcing their Sake through Austria and other countries. Geographically, Austria is a convenient location for people from Eastern European countries to visit, making it a valuable fair for discovering new Sake and interacting with Sake distributors.

There were also attendees who had participated last year, and some expressed their excitement about this year’s event.

Some attendees expressed interest in my Furisode which we Miss Sake are wearing. I received many questions about Furisode generally and also the occasions for wearing it. 

The Furisode I wore that day was a cherished piece that my great-grandmother gifted to my mother and aunt, and it holds special memories as my cousin and I also wore it for our coming-of-age ceremonies too. I was happy to be able to introduce the kimono that I have a lot of feelings for, along with some personal stories.

I am truly delighted to serve as an ambassador, sharing not only Sake but also the beauty of Japan, its food culture, and traditions that our ancestors have preserved. I look forward to continuing to spread the charm of Japan to the world through such opportunities.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Yoshiko Ueno-Müller from Ueno Gourmet at the fair, who conducted seminars during Sake Week Vienna. I was truly honored to hear directly from her about her newly published book this autumn.

On November 6th, there will also be a launch event in Tokyo. This event is a must-attend for Sake lovers, as well as those in the sake industry and sake breweries who have the opportunity to explain Japanese culture and sake in English to overseas audiences!
