7月7日（月）北海道庁を表敬訪問させていただき、北海道農政部 食の安全・みどりの農業推進監 山口和海さま、北海道農政部 生産振興局長 花岡弘毅さまに、2025 Miss SAKE Japan 就任のご挨拶と一般社団法人 Miss SAKE の活動内容についてご報告させていただきました。
北海道農政部について
北海道農政部は、北海道の広大な土地を舞台に、農業の振興をはじめ、農業基盤の整備や農地の保全・活用に関する調整など、食と農に関する政策の中核を担う部門です。農業は私達の日々の暮らしを支える基幹産業であり、北海道農政部はその持続的な発展と次世代への継承に向けて、多方面にわたる取り組みを行っています。Miss SAKEが深く関わる「日本酒」にとっても、原料である酒米の品質や安定供給は重要な観点であり、日本酒が持つ「土地の個性」や「作り手の思い」を映し出す上で、欠かせない存在です。今回はそのような農業の現状や課題、そして未来に向けた取り組みについて、北海道農政部の皆さまから貴重なお話を伺うことができ、大変学びの多い時間となりました。
命を支える「食」と「農」を未来へ
特に今回の訪問では、北海道における農業の現状や、豊富な農作物、そして地域固有の食文化の重要性について、貴重なお話を伺うことができました。北海道は、全国でも群を抜く食料自給率200％超を誇り、まさに日本の「食」を支える地域です。私自身、生まれも育ちも北海道。幼少期から、冷涼な気候と豊かな自然に育まれた農作物に囲まれて暮らしてきました。そして、「日本酒」という観点では、近年その冷涼な気候を求めて道外から多くの酒蔵が北海道に移転し、「道産日本酒」が広く注目を集めています。今回伺ったさまざまなお話を通じて、あらためて「日本酒」という存在が、米作りや地域の食文化の魅力を伝える有力な手段であること、そしてその可能性の大きさを深く実感しました。私自身、自然豊かな北海道の海や山の幸と日本酒の魅力を掛け合わせ、共に広めていきたいという想いを一層強くいたしました。
また、私の名字「館農（たての）」は全国でも非常に珍しく、わずか100名ほどといわれています。そのルーツは北海道にあり、私の祖先もこの地で農業に携わっていたと聞いています。「農」の字を名に持つ者として、命を支える「食」と「農」の価値や魅力を、日本酒を通じて国内外に発信していきたいと、改めて強く感じました。
お忙しい中ご対応下さった北海道農政部の皆さまに、改めて心より感謝申し上げます。
今後も Miss SAKE として、日本酒をはじめとする日本の食文化の魅力を国内外に広く伝えてまいります。

Hello everyone,
This is Chisato Tateno, 2025 Miss SAKE Japan.
On Monday, July 7th, I had the honor of making a courtesy visit to the Hokkaido Government Office, where I met with Mr. Hiroki Hanaoka, Director of the Production Promotion Bureau, and Mr. Kazumi Yamaguchi, Director of the Food Safety and Green Agriculture Promotion Bureau of the Hokkaido Department of Agricultural Policy. I expressed my gratitude for being appointed as 2025 Miss SAKE Japan and reported on the mission and activities of the Miss SAKE Association.
About The Hokkaido Department of Agricultural Policy
The Hokkaido Department of Agricultural Policy plays a central role in shaping agricultural and food policies across this vast region. It leads initiatives for promoting agriculture, maintaining and improving agricultural infrastructure, and managing the preservation and utilization of farmland. Agriculture is a key industry that supports the lives of Hokkaido residents, and the department is actively working toward its sustainable development and transition to the next generation. Such agricultural efforts are deeply connected to the world of sake, which Miss SAKE represents. The quality and stable supply of sake rice directly impact sake production, and the “terroir” and craftsmanship behind each bottle reflect the uniqueness of the land.
Bringing Life-Sustaining Food and Agriculture into the Future
Through this visit, I was able to gain valuable insights into the current state, challenges, and future initiatives of agriculture in Hokkaido—a truly enlightening experience.In particular, I learned about the abundance of agricultural products in Hokkaido and the importance of its unique regional food culture. Hokkaido boasts Japan’s highest food self-sufficiency rate—over 200%—and plays a vital role in feeding the nation.
Having been born and raised in Hokkaido, I have always been supported by the rich harvests made possible by its cool climate and natural resources. In recent years, the same climate has drawn many sake breweries from outside the region, leading to a growing appreciation of Hokkaido-produced sake.
Through the various conversations I had during this visit, I came to deeply recognize how sake can serve as a powerful medium for promoting the beauty of rice cultivation and food culture. I strongly feel a renewed passion to combine the blessings of Hokkaido’s rich seas and mountains with the charm of sake, and to share that value more widely.
Additionally, my family name, Tateno, is said to be shared by only about 100 people in Japan and has its roots in Hokkaido. I have heard that my ancestors also worked in agriculture here on this northern land. As someone whose name literally contains the character for “agriculture,” I feel a deep connection to the value of food and farming, which sustain life. Through sake, I hope to share and celebrate the importance and possibilities of these vital industries.
As 2025 Miss SAKE Japan, I will continue to spread the appeal of Japanese sake and the broader richness of Japan’s food culture to people both in Japan and around the world.
