Attending “Support Noto Breweries! SAKE Marche 2025” – 2025 Miss SAKE Japan Chisato Tateno

Hello everyone,
I’m Chisato Tateno, 2025 Miss SAKE Japan.
On Saturday, October 4th, I had the pleasure of participating in “Support Noto Breweries! SAKE Marche 2025”, held at the Shiinoki Cultural Complex in Kanazawa, together with Chinami Terasaki, 2024 Miss SAKE Japan Runner-up.

About “Support Noto Breweries! SAKE Marche 2025”

“SAKE Marche” is a beloved annual event where sake breweries and restaurants from across Ishikawa Prefecture come together to showcase the harmony between local sake and cuisine. This year, 26 breweries and 28 restaurants participated, offering visitors a luxurious opportunity to experience the perfect pairing of fine sake and local delicacies.

The theme was “Support Noto Breweries!” — highlighting the resilience of breweries in the Noto region that resumed brewing after suffering damage from earthquakes and heavy rains. For some, it was their first return to the event in two years, moving many visitors with their determination and courage. The venue was filled with warm voices, smiles, and heartfelt wishes for recovery. Through sake, people connected — across communities and generations.

Following our opening greetings on stage, we Miss SAKE representatives toured the booths, meeting brewers and guests alike. Sharing cups of sake, we were reminded once again of the power of sake to create bonds and foster culture. Of the 11 breweries in the Noto region affected by the disaster, only three have been able to fully resume brewing. A portion of the proceeds from this event, organized by the Ishikawa Prefecture Sake Brewers Association, was donated to support the recovery of Noto’s sake breweries.

Discovering the New Appeal of Sake in a Gourmet City

Alongside the sake booths, numerous food stalls showcased the region’s rich gastronomy.
I had the opportunity to enjoy exquisite pairings of local sake and dishes, including fresh seafood sushi, tempura, oden, cheese, and grilled meats. Each combination revealed a different side of sake’s versatility, creating a blissful culinary experience unique to Kanazawa — a city renowned for its food culture and refined tastes.

Toward the end of the event, I joined three certified sake professionals on stage for a pairing talk session.
The theme was the pairing of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese with Japanese sake — a fascinating exploration of flavors. From sweet-and-sour styles and sparkling kijoshu to milk cocktails made with coffee liqueur, each pairing offered a new dimension of taste and harmony that amazed the audience.

The Current State of Noto’s Breweries

As I visited each booth, I spoke with brewers from the disaster-affected Noto region.
Some shared stories such as “our brewery was completely destroyed” or “the street in front of us burned down,” leaving me speechless at the scale of devastation. Yet others proudly poured “miraculously saved sake,” their resilience and deep emotion shining through every word. Hearing their accounts — from the moment of disaster to their ongoing recovery — deeply moved me. Their unwavering spirit, determination to continue brewing, and commitment to their community’s pride left a lasting impression.

Today, only three of the eleven breweries in Noto Area have managed to restart production.
Some are borrowing facilities from other breweries, while others have begun anew in temporary spaces — all persevering through countless challenges. What stood out most was their steadfast dedication to brewing in their hometown, a testament to their pride and love for Noto.

Noto’s sake is more than just a drink —
It is a drop filled with the passion, perseverance, and hope of those who craft it and those who support them.
Through its taste, I hope each of us can share in their spirit of recovery and offer even a small measure of strength in return.

Through this “Support Noto Breweries! SAKE Marche 2025,” I was reminded of sake’s power to connect people and communities. As Miss SAKE, I remain committed to sharing the dedication of brewers and the beauty of Japan’s sake culture with audiences far and wide.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Miss SAKE Japan Ishikawa Regional Competition has been confirmed.
Through this event, we aim to showcase Ishikawa’s rich nature, cuisine, and craftsmanship, while also bringing greater attention to the ongoing recovery of Noto’s sake breweries.

I sincerely appreciate your continued warm support and encouragement.
