The Birth of the First Ever Miss SAKE India
[English Follows]皆様、こんにちは。2019 Miss SAKEの春田早重です。2月20日から23日の4日間、インドーのデリーを訪れ、史上初の開催となった『2020 Miss SAKE India』の大会に出席して参りました。
昨年よりスタートしたMiss SAKE International。オーストラリア・香港・台湾・ベトナムに続き、インドは5カ国目のMiss SAKE International 誕生の地となりました。史上初の開催となったMiss SAKE Indiaの大会は、インドにおいて最多購読数を誇る飲料産業総合専門誌『SPIRITZ』( www.spiritz.in)の編集長 Bishan Kumar様の主催で開催されました。
会場となった「THE KIMONO CLUB」は、世界のラグジュアリーブランドが集うインドセレブ御用達の商業施設「The Chanakya Mall」の地下一階にある日本食レストランで、インドの有名シェフが腕を振るう、インドで一目置かれている有名レストランです。大会当日の会場では、明石酒類醸造株式会社様・加藤吉平商店様・辰馬本家酒造株式会社様の日本酒が振る舞われました。

第一回目のMiss SAKE India大会には約50名の方からの応募があり、中には大会の為にシンガポールから一時帰国される方もいらっしゃるなどインド全土において大変注目を集めており、会場には多くのメディア関係者の方がいらしていました。大会当日は14名のファイナリストと5名の審査員の皆様が会場にいらしていました。審査は、主催者のBishan Kumar様をはじめ、インド日本商工会事務局長 杉野健治様、俳優/モデルのPradeep Kharab様、TV9の編集長 Sumaira Khan様、人格形成指導者 Rita Gangwani様によって行われ、大変僭越ながら私も皆様と共に初代Miss SAKEを選出する審査員を務めさせて頂きました。

大会の冒頭に、江岡美香様より日本酒の基礎知識に関するプレゼンテーションがファイナリストを対象に行われました。その後5分程お時間を頂戴し、会場にいらっしゃる皆様にMiss SAKEの概要及び活動報告についてお話させて頂き、私のプレゼン後に審査が開始致しました。

まず初めに一次審査にてファイナリストに選出された14名の皆さんによる自己PRが行われ、決勝に進出する5名のファイナリストが選出されました。自己PRでは14名それぞれが日本酒や日本文化に対する熱い想いに加え、歌やインド舞踊が披露されました。パフォーマンス力、自信、日本文化に関する知識等、様々な観点から厳選なる審査を経て5名の決勝進出者が選出されました。二次審査では初代Miss SAKE Indiaに相応しい女性を決定すべく、一時審査に比べ深みを増した質疑応答が行われました。「日本酒を飲んだことがないインドの方に一言で日本酒を勧めるとしたらあなたはどの単語を用いますか？」や「日本とインドに共通する文化は何だと思いますか？」など高度な質問が繰り返される中、ファイナリストの皆さんは自信に満ち溢れた様子で自身の考えを述べていらっしゃいました。

そして厳選なる審査の結果、ウパスナ・グルングさんが2020 Miss SAKE Indiaに選出されました。インド日本商工会事務局長 杉野健治様によるグランプリ発表後、ウパスナさんにティアラとサッシュを贈呈するお役目を果たさせて頂きました。目に涙を浮かべながら喜んでいたウパスナさんを拝見し、私も大変嬉しい思いが致しました。

大会後には日本食レストラン「Kampai 」にてアフターパーティーが開催され、日本酒や日本食がゲストの皆様に振る舞われました。現地のテレビ局の取材を受けたり、昨年の9月に在インド日本国大使館でお会いした方々との再会もあり、日本酒を片手に楽しいお時間を過ごさせて頂きました。

この度2020 Miss SAKE India大会に出席させて頂き、インドの方々が日本酒をはじめとした日本文化に関心を持ち学びを深め、その魅力を発信しようとされている姿に大変感銘を受けました。私たちはタイトルに”Miss”とありますが、決して単なるBeauty Pagentではありません。私たちの使命は『「能力や意欲が高い女性達が、等しくチャンスに恵まれ、夢や成長を実現できる社会」を実現する為の女性への機会授与』であり、女性の社会的活躍を応援しています。私たちのモットーが国内だけでなく世界にも広がり、今回のように海外においてもMiss SAKEが誕生していることを大変嬉しく思います。
今後も海外Missの皆さんと相互協力を図り、日本の魅力をそれぞれの国で発信して頂くと同時に、私たちも各国の文化・魅力を日本の皆様にお届けし、文化の架け橋となれますよう精進して参りたいと思っております。
この度は初代Miss SAKE India誕生の瞬間に立ち会うことができる機会を頂戴できましたことを大変光栄に思っております。主催者のBishan Kumar様をはじめ、ファイナリストの皆様、ご来場下さいました皆様、関係者の皆様に心より御礼申し上げます。

Hello, everyone. This is Sae Haruta, 2019 Miss SAKE Japan. From February 20th to 23rd, I had been to Delhi, India to attend 2020 Miss SAKE India competition.
Miss SAKE International has started since last year, and India is the fifth region to hold Miss SAKE International competition following Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam. The first ever Miss SAKE India competition was held by Mr. Bishan Kumar, the chief editor of SPIRITZ,the India’s largest circulated magazine on wine, spirits, beer etc, read by thousands of liquor manufactures, importers, distributors, retailers, hoteliers, diplomats, government officials, hotel engagement & catering schools, bartenders and general liquor lovers all across India.
THE KIMONO CLUB, where the competition was held, is a well-known Japanese restaurant located on basement first floor in The Chanakya Mall, a commercial facility where is popular among Indian celebs. On the day, Japanese SAKE from Akashi Sake Brewery, Katoukichibee Shouten, and Tatsuuma-Honke Brewing Co. Ltd. were served for everyone at the venue.
About as many as 50 women applied for the first Miss SAKE India competition, and the competition had drawn a lot of attention throughout India that one of the finalists came from Singapore temporarily only for the competition and there were many media people at the venue. On the day of the competition, 14 finalists and 5 judges were present at the venue. Mr. Bishan Kumar, the organizer of the competition, Mr. Kenji Sugino, Secretary-General of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India, Mr. Pradeep Kharab, an actor / model, Ms. Sumira Khan, executive editor of TV9, and Ms. Rita Gangwani, a grooming and personality development mentor were welcomed as judges, and I was also one of the judges to select the first ever Miss SAKE India.
At the beginning, Ms. Mika Eoka gave a presentation on the basic knowledge of sake to the finalists. After that, I gave a brief overview of Miss SAKE and introduced our recent activities and the competition began after my presentation.
Miss SAKE India was selected after two rounds. In the first round, all the 14 finalists did their own PR. In addition to telling their passion for SAKE and Japanese culture, some of them sang beautiful songs, the others performed traditional Indian dances. After their performances, judges selected 5 finalists who advanced to the final round from various perspectives such as performance, confidence, and knowledge of Japanese culture and so on. In the final round, a question-and-answer session was conducted and judges asked deeper question to the 5 finalists in order to determine a woman suitable for the first ever Miss SAKE India. “Which word would you use when you recommend SAKE to Indians who have never tasted before?” Or “What do you think is the common culture between Japan and India?” Even though the questions from judges were not easy to answer, the finalists spoke their own opinion confidently.
After careful consideration, Ms. Upasna Gurung was elected as 2020 Miss SAKE India. After Mr. Sugino announced her name, I crowned her and gave her a sash.
We had an after party at a Japanese restaurant called “Kampai” and everyone was enjoying Japanese food and SAKE. I took interview from local TV show and met people who I saw at Japanese embassy in Delhi last September During the party, and had a great time with SAKE.
By attending the 2020 Miss SAKE India competition, I was very impressed with Indian people who are not only interested in Japanese culture, but also deepen their knowledge and try to share the greatness of Japanese culture in India. Even though miss SAKE has “Miss” in our title, Miss SAKE is not just a beauty pageant. Our most important mission is to give great opportunities to women with high ability and motivation for the purpose to create society where they can equally get a chance to make their dream come true.
I am so glad that our motto is spreading to the world, and as many as 5 Miss SAKE Internationals have been born outside of Japan.
We will cooperate with Miss SAKE Internationals to spread the greatness of each cultures, and work hard to become a cultural bridge between us.
It was a great honor for me to have an opportunity to be present at the moment of the birth of the first ever Miss SAKE India. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the organizer, Mr. Bishan Kumar, the finalists, the visitors and all the people involved in the competition.
