2026年2月16日に開催されたJETRO主催「ケープタウン SAKE SHOWCASE商談会」に出演いたしました。

南アフリカ（以下、南ア）では和食人気の高まりに伴い日本酒も注目され始めている一方で、輸入規制の影響で流通が限定されている状況のため、JETROでは国税庁および在南ア日本国大使館とともに規制緩和に向け南ア政府と交渉を行っています。その結果一部規制が緩和されたものの、依然として容量規制の緩和には至っておらず、 720ml、1,800ml など「合」で測ることのできる容量のボトルの小売販売が許可されていない状況を打破するため、今回の商談会が企画されました。
午前の部門は輸入規制を所掌する担当省庁・機関の要人・担当者を招いて、在南ア日本大使館 駐南ア共和国大使 志水史雄様の開会挨拶、日本酒専門家の池田直子様による日本酒勉強会で基礎知識、そしてテイスティングセッションが実施され、国税庁酒類業振興・輸出促進室国際交渉第一係 課長補佐 杉浦成彦様 による閉会挨拶で締められました。

午後の部はJETRO ヨハネスブルク事務所所長的場 真太郎様によるご挨拶、南ア 農業大臣 ジョン・スティーン ヘイゼン様によるご挨拶、そして南部美人 代表取締役社長 久慈 浩介様による開会挨拶の上で、日本酒調達に関心のある南ア ビジネス関係者70名程度を招いた商談会が実施されました。
私は南部美人 久慈 浩介様に 2021 Miss SAKEとしてご紹介いただき、開会挨拶の通訳を務めさせていただきました。

今回はMiss SAKEの活動をケープタウンの皆様に知ってもらうだけでなく、南アへの日本酒輸入拡大の要となる規制緩和の働きかけを直接的にする機会となる外交の場に携わることができ大変光栄でございました。

商談会には8蔵、7酒屋/商社、全30銘柄以上が集まりました。
JETRO 西浦様のご配慮にてお酒の提供温度に合わせてクーラーやお燗用チロリなども用意いただき、ベストな状態でお客様に楽しんでいただくことができました。

会場は、人気日本酒料理店（革新的なラーメンコンセプトをもつ「Ramenhead」、そして二つ星ミシュランシェフの高木慎一朗氏とのコラボレーションによる「Sushiya」）を手がけるFYNグループ「beyond」レストランのご協力にて、来場客の皆様はペアリングも楽しんでいらっしゃいました。
ワインの葡萄畑と壮大なケープタウンの山や大自然を一望できる素晴らしいロケーションでした。 握りたてのお寿司はもちろん、本格 坦々麺、そしてニューヨークで大活躍されていた日本人のご夫婦がケープタウンにて経営するワールドクラスのカクテルバーANTHMのTetsu様による日本酒カクテルなど、どれも手が込んでいて絶品でした。
前日には、南部美人、越銘醸、山陽盃酒造（今仲酒店）、丹澤山（Happy Sake）の蔵元と酒屋代表と共に、カクテルバーANTHM、Unclaimed Bar共催にて30名程度の飲食業界従事者向けに「ケープタウン初めての日本酒マスタークラス」が開催されました。
私も講師兼通訳としてお手伝いをさせていただきましたが、ご参加者の皆様から大変熱心に質問をいただき日本酒が秘めるポテンシャルへの関心の高さを実感する大成功の会になりました。
2021年にMiss SAKE 日本代表として選出をいただいて以来、世界的に権威のあるWSET SAKE Level 3習得や、国外最大規模の日本酒鑑評会International Wine Challenge での最年少審査員を2年間連続任務、様々な蔵元との交流を通して学びを深める機会に恵まれてきました。日本代表任期の5年後にもこうしてMiss SAKEとして、国交に関わる重要な施策において、僅かばかりでも日本酒業界の皆様に恩返しができたことを大変光栄に思います。
本会の開催において絶え間ない準備を続けて下さったJETROヨハネスブルク事務所 所長の的場様、ディレクターの西浦様をはじめとする関係者の皆様、駐南ア日本大使 志水様、開会挨拶通訳に抜擢をいただいた南部美人 久慈様、南ア商談会に参加の機会をくださった 今仲酒店 今仲様へ心からの感謝と、南アフリカへの今後の更なる日本酒輸出拡大を祈念申し上げます。

2021 Miss SAKE Appeared at the “South Africa SAKE SHOWCASE Tasting”
Hello everyone.
I am Miyu Matsuzaki, 2021 Miss SAKE.
I participated in the “Cape Town SAKE SHOWCASE Tasting” hosted by JETRO on February 16, 2026.
In South Africa, the growing popularity of Japanese cuisine has also brought increased attention to Japanese sake. However, distribution remains limited due to import regulations. JETRO is negotiating with the South African government, alongside the National Tax Agency and the Embassy of Japan in South Africa, to seek a relaxation of these regulations. Although some restrictions have been eased as a result, volume restrictions remain unchanged. To overcome the situation where retail sales of bottles in sizes measurable in “go” (e.g., 720ml, 1,800ml) are not permitted, this gathering was organized.
The morning session featured key officials and representatives from the ministries and agencies responsible for import regulations. It included an opening address by Mr. Fumio Shimizu, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of South Africa, Ms. Naoko Ikeda, a sake specialist, conducted a sake study session covering fundamental knowledge, followed by a tasting session. The session concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Shigehiko Sugiura, Assistant Director of the International Negotiations Section 1, Alcohol Industry Promotion and Export Promotion Office, National Tax Agency.

The afternoon session commenced with opening remarks by Mr. Shintaro Tokita, Director of the JETRO Johannesburg Office, followed by remarks from Mr. John Steyn-Hazen, Minister of Agriculture of South Africa, and an opening address by Mr. Kosuke Kuji, President and CEO of Minamibijin. This was followed by a business meeting attended by approximately 70 South African business representatives interested in sourcing Japanese sake.
I was introduced by Mr. Kosuke Kuji of Nanbu Bijin as 2021 Miss SAKE and served as interpreter for the opening remarks.
Minister Steyn-Hazen also expressed his pleasure at traveling to the event, and we took a commemorative photo.
It was a great honor to be involved in this diplomatic occasion, which not only introduced Miss SAKE’s activities to the Cape Town community but also provided a direct opportunity to advocate for regulatory easing crucial to expanding Japanese sake imports into South Africa.
The business meeting gathered 8 breweries, 7 liquor stores/trading companies, and over 30 brands in total.
JETRO provided coolers and chilled sake containers and warmers like chirori, tailored to the optimal serving temperatures, ensuring guests enjoyed the sake in the best possible way.
The venue, provided with the cooperation of the FYN Group’s “beyond” restaurant (which operates popular Japanese sake restaurants including ‘Ramenhead’ with its innovative ramen concept and “Sushiya,” a collaboration with Michelin two-star chef Shinichiro Takagi), allowed attendees to enjoy pairings as well. The location offered stunning views of vineyards and Cape Town’s majestic mountains and nature. Everything was exquisite and meticulously crafted: freshly made sushi, authentic tantanmen noodles, and Japanese sake cocktails by Tetsu from ANTHM, a world-class cocktail bar in Cape Town run by a Japanese couple formerly thriving in New York.
The day before, the “First Cape Town Sake Masterclass” was held for about 30 food and beverage industry professionals. It was co-hosted by cocktail bar ANTHM and Unclaimed Bar, alongside representatives from the breweries and retailers: Minamibijin, Koshimeijo, Sanyohai Shuzo (Imanaka Shoten), and Tanzawayama (SAKE HAPPY TOKYO).
I also assisted as an instructor and interpreter, and the event was a great success, with participants asking very enthusiastic questions, demonstrating their high level of interest in the potential of sake.
Since being selected as Miss SAKE Japan in 2021, I have been privileged to deepen my knowledge through opportunities such as obtaining the globally authoritative WSET SAKE Level 3 qualification, serving as the youngest judge for two consecutive years at the International Wine Challenge—the largest sake competition outside Japan—and engaging with various breweries. It is a tremendous honor to be able to give back, even in a small way, to the sake industry through my role as Miss SAKE in this important diplomatic initiative, even five years after my term as Japan’s representative.
I extend my deepest gratitude to Mr. Matoba, Director of the JETRO Johannesburg Office, Mr. Nishiura, Director, and all the staff involved who worked tirelessly to prepare for this event. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Shimizu of the Embassy of Japan in South Africa, Ms. Kuji of Nanbu Bijin for her selection as interpreter for the opening address, and Mr. Imanaka of Imanaka Sake Shop for providing the opportunity to participate in the South Africa business meeting. I sincerely hope for the continued expansion of Japanese sake exports to South Africa.
