2023 Miss SAKE Japan 山田琴子です。

雪から雨へと変わり、雪や氷の解けだす頃となった2月下旬、2月23日に行われました『在フィリピン日本国大使館主催の天皇誕生日祝賀レセプション』に出席するためフィリピン マニラに行ってまいりました。

その際に、フィリピン マニラにございますRalph’s Wines & Spirits様へ伺いましたので、ご報告させていただきます。

＜Ralph’s Wines & Spirits＞

Ralph’s Wines & Spirits様は、フィリピンにてアルコール飲料の販売を取り扱われております。フィリピン国内に15店舗のお店を持たれており、いくつかの店舗では販売されているお酒と一緒にお食事をペアリングして楽しむことができるアルコールのエキスパートです。

世界各地のワインをはじめ、日本酒、ビール、ウィスキー、スピリッツなどを取り扱っています。

Ralph’s Wines & Spirits様には、昨年の10月にフィリピンに伺った際に、滞在中にお世話になりました丸紅フィリピン会社社長であり、フィリピン日本商工会議所会頭 下田茂様のご好意によりご紹介いただきました。

その際に、Ralph’s Wines & Spirits様の日本酒への想いと専門知識に大変感銘を受け、是非今回フィリピンに伺った際にもお会いできればと思っており、今回もRalph’s Wines & Spirits様のRaymond様、Ryan様にお会いでき大変光栄でした。

今回も前回と同じく、Ralph’s Mitsukoshi (BGC)店、そしてRalph’s Arnaiz (MAKATI)店を訪問させていただきました。

Raymond様は、大変親日家かつ日本酒へ情熱を込められており、日本酒を深めるために日本の酒蔵にてお酒造りのご経験をされたこともあるそうです。現在、Raymond様はRalph’s Wines & Spiritsに47都道府県全ての日本酒を揃えることが今の目標であるそうです。

この日は、私たちに楯の川酒造様の楯野川 純米大吟醸 清流（https://shop.tatenokawa.com/view/category/sake ）、千代むすび酒造様の純米吟醸強力５０と、SORAHを振る舞ってくださいました。

＜フィリピン最大の日本酒イベントSAKE MANILA＞

そんなRalph’s Wines & Spirits様は、昨年よりフィリピン最大の日本酒イベントSAKE MANILAの主催も行われております。

フィリピンの方にもっと日本酒を知っていただく機会を作りたいと開催されておりますこのイベントでは、200以上の日本酒とその日本酒に合うように作られたペアリングのお食事をご用意されているそうです。

また、日本酒をいただくだけではなく、フィリピンの方に直接酒蔵の方とコミュニケーションをとっていただくことで、日本酒一滴一滴に込められた日本の歴史と蔵人さん達の想いを学んでほしいという日本の文化と心をご紹介したいという想いもあるそうです。

このイベントは、今年も開催予定で、今年のSAKE MANILAは5月24日にOkada Manilaにて開催されます。

＜フィリピンBGC視察＞

フィリピンの「BGC」と呼ばれておりますボニファニオ・グローバル・シティは、マニラ市の中でも経済成長が著しいフィリピンを象徴する近未来都市です。

このエリアは、1995年よりフィリピンの大手財閥の一つアヤラコーポレーションが開発をし始めたこともあり、大変精密にデザインされた近代的で美しい街並みが特徴的です。今回もJETRO様のイベント伺いましたMitsukoshi BGC店もこのエリアにあり、グローバルシティの名前の通り、様々な国企業のオフィスや各国の駐在員の方が暮らされております。

今回は、丸紅フィリピン会社社長、フィリピン日本商工会議所会頭 下田茂様のご好意によりこのBGCのメインストリートである「ハイストリート」を見学させていただきました。

ハイストリートは、BGCの中心部にございます歩行者専用の通りになっており飲食店を含む様々なお店が立ち並んでおりました。治安もよく、道も大変綺麗に整備されており、ご家族連れやベビーカーを押しているお母さんがいらっしゃいました。

フィリピンは、約1億人の豊富な人口がおり、更にその人口のほとんどが若い世代であるということからこれからの発展が大変期待される国です。2020年時点の年齢の中央値は25歳と言われており、そんな若くてエネルギーのあるフィリピンをまさに象徴するような近代的でおしゃれなエリアでした。

また、フィリピンはスペイン領であった時代が長いことから、スペイン料理と東南アジアが融合したような大変豊かな食文化がございます。この日下田様にスペイン料理のお店をご紹介いただいたのですが、フィリピンでいただくスペイン料理は本場スペインと同じ本格的なものがいただけるとのことでした。

この日いただいたAngulasとスペイン語で呼ばれるうなぎの稚魚のお料理は、塩味と温かい柔らかいうなぎの稚魚の身が絶品で、忘れられないフィリピンでの思い出となりました。下田様、大変貴重な経験をありがとうございました。

 

４日間のフィリピン マニラでの滞在でしたが、大変多くのフィリピンの方に日本酒をご紹介する機会をいただきましたこと誠に感謝しております。また、Raymond様、Ryan様を含め、多くのフィリピンの方が日本酒の魅力に気づき、関心が高まっているということを肌で感じました。

若いエネルギー溢れるフィリピンにて、これからのさらなる日本酒の普及に向け、より一層Miss SAKEとしてもお手伝いができればと思います。

Hello everyone,

I’m Kotoko Yamada, the 2023 Miss SAKE Japan.

This February, I traveled to Manila, Philippines, to attend the “National Day Reception Celebrating the 64th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan” hosted by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines.

During my visit, I had the pleasure of visiting Ralph’s Wines & Spirits in Manila, Philippines, and I’d like to share my experience with you.

<Ralph’s Wines & Spirits>

Ralph’s Wines & Spirits specializes in the sale of alcoholic beverages in the Philippines. 

With 15 stores across the country, they are experts in alcohol pairings, offering opportunities for customers to enjoy meals alongside alcoholic beverages at select locations. They offer a wide range of alcoholic beverages, including wines from around the world, Japanese sake, beer, whiskey, and spirits.

During my visit to the Philippines last October, I had the privilege of being introduced to Ralph’s Wines & Spirits by Mr. Shigeru Shimoda, President of Marubeni Philippines Corporation and Chairman of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines. 

I was deeply impressed by Ralph’s Wines & Spirits’ passion for Japanese sake and their expertise in the field. Therefore, I was honored to meet Raymond and Ryan from Ralph’s Wines & Spirits again during this visit.

Just like last time, I visited Ralph’s Mitsukoshi (BGC) store and Ralph’s Arnaiz (MAKATI) store. Raymond, who is extremely fond of Japan and passionate about Japanese sake, has even gained experience in sake brewing at Japanese breweries to deepen his understanding of sake. Currently, Raymond’s goal at Ralph’s Wines & Spirits is to offer sake from all 47 prefectures of Japan.

On this occasion, Raymond and Ryan welcomed us with Tatenokawa Junmai Daiginjo Seiryu and Chiyomusubi Junmai Ginjo 50 from Chiyomusubi Sake Brewery, as well as SORAH.

<SAKE MANILA – Philippines’ Largest Sake Event>

Ralph’s Wines & Spirits has been organizing SAKE MANILA, the largest sake event in the Philippines, since last year. 

This event aims to introduce Japanese sake to more Filipinos by offering over 200 types of sake paired with specially crafted meals. Moreover, by facilitating direct communication between Filipinos and sake brewers, they hope to convey the history and passion of Japanese sake to the participants. 

SAKE MANILA is scheduled to be held again this year, on May 24th at Okada Manila.

As an ambassador for Japanese sake and culture, I look forward to supporting Ralph’s Wines & Spirits’ wonderful initiatives in the future.

<BGC Tour in the Philippines>

Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in the Philippines, also known as “BGC,” is a futuristic city that symbolizes the economic growth of the Philippines, particularly in Manila. Developed by Ayala Corporation, one of the country’s largest conglomerates, since 1995, BGC features meticulously designed modern and beautiful streetscapes. Mitsukoshi BGC, where JETRO’s event was held, is also located in this area. True to its name, it is home to various multinational companies’ offices and expatriates from different countries.

During my visit, I had the opportunity, thanks to Mr. Shigeru Shimoda’s kind arrangements, to tour the main street of BGC called “High Street.” High Street is a pedestrian-only street located in the heart of BGC, lined with various shops and restaurants. It was a safe beautiful street, with well-maintained roads, and I even saw families and mothers pushing strollers.

With a population of approximately 100 million, the majority of whom are young, the Philippines is a country with great expectations for future development. The median age was said to be 25 in 2020, and BGC truly epitomizes the modern and trendy areas that symbolize the young and energetic Philippines.

Furthermore, due to its long history as a Spanish colony, the Philippines boasts a rich culinary culture that blends Spanish cuisine with Southeast Asian influences. Mr. Shimoda introduced me to a Spanish restaurant on that day, where I had the opportunity to taste authentic Spanish cuisine, similar to that found in Spain itself. 

The baby eel I had tried, known as Angulas in Spanish, were particularly memorable, with their savory taste and tender texture, creating unforgettable memories of my time in the Philippines. Thank you, Mr. Shimoda, for this valuable experience.

Although my stay in Manila, Philippines, lasted only four days, I am truly grateful for the opportunity to introduce Japanese sake to many Filipinos. 

I also felt firsthand the increasing interest in Japanese sake among many Filipinos and the circle is growing thanks to Ralph’s Wines & Spirits. 

Raymond san, Ryan san, thank you so much for welcoming us again to your store.

In the vibrant and energetic Philippines, I hope to continue supporting the further spread of Japanese sake as Miss SAKE.
